ARTA Architects Limited
ARTA, a convergence of ART + ARCHITECTURE, explores the thought-provoking and experiential qualities of art together with the forms and functions of architecture. Founded in 2021, ARTA Architects has made a significant impact in Hong Kong, completing over 30 public space interventions that create platforms for the public to engage creatively with their works and surroundings.
Their debut furniture design, Social Ring, serves as an innovative urban intervention that encourages community interaction during times of social distancing. This design reflects ARTA's commitment to fostering social connections through thoughtful and functional design. Their second furniture design, the Tai Kwun Chairs, recently garnered the “Furniture of the Year” Award at the FRAME Awards 2024 amongst various other awards. The design tells the story of Tai Kwun, and how it seamlessly blends a heritage site of restored historic buildings with new modern architectural design by Herzog & de Meuron. The Tai Kwun Chairs, with its iconic ergonomic form, features a bespoke locking system that allows for easy installation and storage, transforming the Laundry Steps into a vibrant area for performances and events.
Sustainability and education are integral to ARTA's ethos, evident in their use of recycled materials such as recycled glass and plastics, and their engagement with NGOs to involve people of all ages in the design process. ARTA believes that social engagement, environmental awareness, and design are inextricably linked.
ARTA has gained recognition both locally and internationally, with exhibitions at the Venice Architecture Biennale and Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) Urbanism & Architecture Exhibitions for Excellence and accolades including the Dezeen Awards, FRAME Awards, iF Design Awards, HKIA Annual Awards and HKIA Young Architect Award.
Looking forward, ARTA has been appointed as the architect for various projects including a 20,000 sqm. promenade project, a new waterfront landmark pavilion, multiple sea view villas, a boat club, a hotel and various architectural installations. Join ARTA at Milan Design Week 2025 to experience their innovative approach and vision for the future.
