Contrasting time and space

Photographic artist Almond Chu loves Blindspot Gallery, where he has exhibited in the past. It is an art gallery with a primary focus on contemporary photography and image-based art, founded in 2010 and occupying what was once a commercial laundry in an industrial multistorey building in Wong Chuk Hang. Designer decided to keep traces of the premises’ history, such as chipped and peeling paint on the walls and pillars, the exposed, unpolished ceiling, and calligraffiti on some walls, so that the old stands in stark contrast to the new plain white walls that serve as a neutral background for exhibitions. This effect captures timelessness and even eternity, suggesting a constant dialogue between the present and past as one explores an exhibition, which Chu likens to a characteristic of the art of photography. Since photographs are about life that is fixed forever, and the gallery reveals beauty arising from contrasting time and space, both are complementary.
