Timeless beauty

Whenever visual designer, ink wash painter and art teacher Dr. Kan Tai Keung goes to the Concert Hall at the Hong Kong City Hall, he considers it a treat. Even before the concert begins, to him the space is a feast for the eyes, because the Concert Hall’s simple geometric form is as beautiful as it is functional. Although the seating capacity is over 1,400, its harmonious proportions, cherry wood panelling, and the original neutral colour of the seats communicate a sense of intimacy. When the City Hall was built in 1962, the Concert Hall was immediately recognised internationally for its acoustics. Since then, its soundproofing, lighting and other facilities have been upgraded, and to this day the Concert Hall remains a top venue for the performing arts and important ceremonies. Dr. Kan treasures his memories there, both on stage and in the audience.
